About Me

I'm originally from the midwest and have always been fascinated by nature. I spent my childhood detailing the predatory behavior of ant lions, rearing fireflies, and watching tadpoles metamorphose into toads. My favorite TV shows were Star Trek and I Love Lucy, which I credit in developing my adventurous spirit and sense of humor.

My first time visiting the ocean was as a teenager during a trip to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. This is where I discovered one of my favorite crustaceans, the horseshoe crab. What a bizarre creature to behold! It became clear that after spending so much time exploring land, it was time to venture underwater.

I moved to Honolulu, HI to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa and spend more time around the ocean. I became a SCUBA diver and spent my free time underwater observing the amazing fish, invertebrates and seaweeds. These experiences coupled with my inquisitive nature have led me down the path of marine science. To learn more about my research/academic experience read my Curriculum Vitae.

I currently live in Santa Cruz, CA. In my free time, I’m usually exploring our local trails and beaches with my family.
